"A New Voice Moving Us Forward," was a fitting campaign slogan for Rep. Rahn Mayo, a man whose works live up his words.
Mayo, who represents House District 91 (portions of DeKalb and Henry counties), was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2008, during one of the most exciting election cycles in U. S. history. His committee assignments include Education, Banks and Banking, and Legislative and Congressional Reapportionment. Mayo also serves as vice chairman of the Henry County legislative delegation.
Rahn Mayo is a committed community servant. As board chairman of the Cedar Grove High School Career Technology Academy Program, he has the opportunity to support innovative academic initiatives in education, a top priority on his legislative agenda. As a board member for Arthink DeKalb, he supports the organization in their efforts to promote arts and culture in DeKalb County. Mayo is a former mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, and a participant with Youth Vibe. He is an Ambassador with the American Heart Association and has worked with United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta.
On the grassroots level, Mayo is former Vice President of the Brook Glen Neighborhood Association. During his tenure, he initiated and helped organize the "Adopt a Road" program in his community, joining other citizens in picking up litter in conjunction with a county program. He is a former member of the Atlanta Housing Authority Landlord Advisory Board for the Section 8 Program.
Among his numerous introductions as a state and civic leader, probably his most memorable one was his first - only one month after his birth. He was introduced to the nation and the world by his father, renowned actor and drama professor Whitman Mayo, in the December 25, 1975 issue of JET magazine. Rahn's name was mentioned in a cover article featuring his father. This no doubt led to several television and movie roles including "Sesame Street," The Walk, and a cameo role in Newly Wed Man. His early introduction and exposure to the arts taught him the importance of the arts in education and in extra curricular activities as a contributing factor to academic excellence and a deterrent to negative behavior among our youth.
A professional real estate broker, Mayo began his professional career in radio as an advertising sales executive for several Atlanta stations, and as co-host of the "Reggie Gay Gospel Show" on WCLK.
Mayo is an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. A graduate of Howard University, he resides in Decatur, Georgia.
Rahn Mayo is definitely a strong, new voice of leadership for the 21st Century, who possesses the insight and vision to keep moving us forward!
